Uduaghan: Outstanding corps members’ll be rewarded

Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, CON, has promised to reward outstanding performance by any member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in all facets of service to the state.
Uduaghan stated this in a goodwill message at the official opening/swearing-in ceremony of the 2014 Batch ‘C’ orientation course of the NYSC at Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area. He congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of various courses at their institutions of learning.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama, SAN, Uduaghan noted that the orientation exercise was designed to instil in corps members the requisite leadership virtues of perseverance, endurance, discipline of mind and purpose, and it includes the ability to live peacefully with others from different socio-cultural backgrounds.
He urged corps members to avoid undue lobby for posting to urban areas, as they are already congested, noting that those who will require and appreciate their service are those in rural communities.
“You have the privilege and unique opportunity to serve our fatherland and leave indelible contributions by embarking on projects of felt need in your host communities,” Uduaghan said.
The governor also advised corps members to appreciate the rich cultures and values of the state as well as being security-conscious at all times and avoid bad company. He assured them that the state would do everything to ensure their safety during the service year.
Delta State coordinator of the NYSC, Essien Etukudo, said a total of 2,883 corps members, comprising of 1,449 males and 1,434 females, have been registered. She noted that this year’s orientation exercise consists of 2014 Batch ‘C’ as well as the 2014 Batch ‘B’ stream 2, who were transferred from other states but could not undertake their orientation due to the Ebola scare
