Elders of the Eggon ethnic group in Nasarawa State have restated their commitment to resist efforts by the minister for Information and their kinsman, Mr. Labaran Maku, to polarise their people ahead of the 2015 general election.
This resolution follows Mr. Maku’s insistence to contest the governorship of the state despite the endorsement of Senator Solomon Ewuga by Eggon elders as their sole candidate for the upcoming polls.
Spokesman of the Eggon elders, Mr. Dogara Angbo, who made the declaration at a joint press conference yesterday in Lafia, the state capital, declared that the minister ‘is on his own’ as the Eggon elders had unanimously endorsed Ewuga as the only Eggon son that would slug it out with other governorship candidates of the PDP at the primaries and, hopefully, the general election.
He advised the information minister to remain in service at the federal level rather than come back to oppose Ewuga for the governorship contest.
Angbo said it was unfortunate that Maku, who had benefitted from a conscientious arrangement reached by the same Eggon elders that enabled him (Maku) emerge the state deputy governor during the second tenure of former Governor Abdullahi Adamu in 2007, could descend so low to work against a similar arrangement made for another son of Eggon.
Meanwhile, some youths under the umbrella of Solomon Ewuga Youth Solidarity Forum (SEYSF) has affirmed that Solomon Ewuga remained the sole candidate for Eggon nation in next year’s gubernatorial election in Nasarawa State.
The director of the forum, Mr. Abel Samuila Jilemsam, said Senator Ewuga`s political leadership and unrivalled passion for grassroots stood him out among other governorship aspirants in the state.
