Joanna Hall’s top things to do at 40 to look good at 50:
1. Wear sunscreen every day on your face. It will reduce the risk of skin cancer, which can kill or be very disfiguring.
2. Watch your weight. It’s harder to shake the kilos when you are in your 40s and it is even harder in your 50s.
3. Learn to say no. This is especially important for women who have kids and a husband. Make sure you make time to look after yourself.  No skipping the sunscreen in your 40s.  Time to go easy on the booze.
4. If you are lucky enough to have enjoyed good health up until now, it’s probably time to ask for some tests. Blood pressure, cholesterol and vitamin D checks are a good idea. If they flag up any issues make the changes. Acting now can help prevent bones and joint issues and disability in the future.
5. If you still smoke, there’s never been a better time to stop. As well as ruining your skin, it is a leading cause of cancer and costs a fortune.
6. Alcohol is also linked to cancer, so have at least two nights off a week. When drinking, don’t go overboard. It is not elegant to see a 40-something who has had too much to drink.joanna
