NGO Empowers 22 HIV Positive Persons In Jigawa

A Jigawa-based NGO, Society for Community Awareness and Mobilisation (SOCHAM), on Thursday distributed working equipment to 22 persons living with HIV and AIDS in Hadejia town.
The Project Coordinator of the group, Malam Saidu Kanti, said while distributing the items in Hadejia that the gesture was to empower and provide the sufferers with means of livelihood.
Kanti said the items included sewing machines, pasta blending machines and cooking utensils, while textile materials were provided to two women to enable them engage in boutique trade.
He said that the organisation had also provided wheel chair to a lady with disability, who was also living with HIV and AIDS.
“We distributed economic strengthening equipment to HIV positive persons to enable them become self reliant.
“This is to empower them and improve their living condition to enable them take care of the education of their children,” he said.
The project coordinator said that the organisation would also distribute similar equipment to 40 HIV positive persons under the second phase of the programme in Hadejia and Ringim local governemnt areas.
According to him, the organisation was also conducting HIV testing and counselling as well as sensitisation activities on malaria.
“We have set up VCT centres, distributed mosquito nets and drugs to enhance treatment of malaria,” he said.
Malam Usman Baffa, Head, Community Service Department, Hadejia Local Government Council, urged the beneficiaries to ensure effective utilisation of the equipment and engage in productive activities.
Mrs Lare Useni, one of the beneficiaries, commended the gesture, saying it would improve their living condition. (NAN)aids-hiv-logo1
